CAIRO – 7 February 2022: As the 53rd Cairo International Book Fair concluded its two-week activities on Monday, Islam Baioumy, director of the fair, said more than 2 million people attended the fair during the past days.

Whole families have visited the fair and 600 seminars were held during the days of the fair, Baioumy told DMC.

The Higher Committee of the Cairo International Book Fair 2022, headed by Egypt’s Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem, announced that some 294,000 visitors entered the book fair grounds on Sunday, which embodies the high index of collective awareness of the importance of knowledge in the development and progression of society.

Some 1067 Egyptian, Arab and foreign publishers and agencies from 51 countries participated in the book fair.

The fair was held at the Egypt Center for International Conventions and Exhibitions and Greece was the guest of honor.

Writer Yehia Haqi was be the main personality of the book fair. The writer Abdel Tawab Youssef was the main character of the Children’s Book Fair.

In this edition, the latest methods of technology and artificial intelligence were used. During the activities, the writer Yehia Haqi appeared with the hologram in an interactive presentation with the audience.

Also, children and children's hall-goers watched one of the stories of the late writer Abdel Tawab Youssef through using VR glasses.

An award for the Best Arab Publisher was granted for the first time during the 53rd Cairo International Book Fair  and the value of the fair’s prizes increased to L.E. 40,000 instead of L.E. 10,000 in each cultural field.

Furthermore, online sale of books was made available on the exhibition’s digital platform and delivery services are provided in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications represented by the Egyptian Post to any place inside Egypt.

The Ministry of Culture presented a large number of its publications within the "Your Culture is Your Book" initiative to provide books at affordable prices.
