CAIRO – 30 December 2021: The 3,500-year-old mummy of Egyptian pharaoh Amenhotep I has remained virtually unexamined since its discovery in Luxor in 1881.

As one of the few royal mummies from ancient Egypt yet to be unpacked, it has revealed precious details about the life of the man who ruled a unified Egyptian kingdom from 1525 to 1504 BC.

This situation has now changed dramatically, thanks to the development of advanced digital scanning technology that allows scientists to study the mummified mummy of Amenhotep I without disturbing or damaging his body coverings in any way, according to the ancient-origins website.

The site said that, in cooperation with the famous Egyptologist Zahi Hawass, Sahar Selim, a radiologist at Cairo University, completed a comprehensive digital examination of the embalmed mummy of Amenhotep I. 3D CT scanning technology was used to obtain detailed images of preserved bones and soft tissues, which eliminated the need to remove the mummy's linen covers to find out what lies underneath.

The royal mummies of the New Kingdom [1550 to 1069 BC] were the most well-preserved ancient corpses of all. This makes those mummies a time capsule that can tell us about what ancient kings and queens looked like, their health, ancient diseases, mummification techniques, and ways to manufacture funerary objects.
