Drawings from "Tintin" sell for €1 million at auction in France

CAIRO – 30 November 2021: French auction house Artcurial has held a special exhibition for the Belgian cartoonist Hergé’s drawings of the comics “Tintin”. The exhibits were sold for a total of €1 million.

Signed in 1969 by Hergé, the famous color painting “Hommage à Neil Armstrong”, estimated between €500,000 and €600,000, came to a price of €573,000 including costs, while “Mysterious Star” drawings were sold for €195,000, costs included.

However, the seventh painting from the album “Tintin in the Land of Black Gold”, estimated at €1 million, did not find a buyer.

Painting 7 of “Tintin in the Land of Black Gold” was made using Chinese ink on paper and was estimated at €900,000 - €1.2 million, but it did not find a buyer, possibly due to its high price.

On the same day, the prices of the drawings of Asterix and Cleopatra, by Albert Oderzo, rose to €101,400; and Italian author Hugo Pratt’s drawings called Corto Maltese were also sold for €40,000.

It is noteworthy that the drawings of the graphic adventure series that embody the adventures of journalist Tintin and his dog Milo are very popular in French auctions.

More than one collection of the famous Belgian painter and author Hergé was sold for millions of dollars in more than one auction.
