Egypt’s Minister of Tourism & Antiquities attends launching ceremony of latest publications on history of Egyptian fashion

CAIRO – 17 November 2021: On November 16, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled el-Enani, attended the cultural evening organized by one of the local magazines to launch its latest publications on the history of Egyptian fashion, at the Greater Cairo Library in Zamalek.

The evening was also attended by a group of ambassadors, university professors, writers, media professionals and public figures.

This publication reviews the history of the costumes worn by the Egyptians throughout their history. It presents a complete timeline of Egyptian fashion from the era of the Old Kingdom to the twentieth century, following the style of clothing and its different designs through the ages, this is in addition to detailing ancient fashions, different cultures and influences, with the help of the most prominent specialists and academic experts in Egypt and around the world.

During the evening, a 3D model was shown to revive several historical costumes, exactly the same way they were worn in various eras, with their rich details and luxurious textiles with ornaments and adornments.

Among these shown examples came the costumes of two women, one belonging to the New Kingdom, and the other from the early Middle Ages in the ninth century AD.

A number of foods with historical roots, selected from ancient Egyptian papyri, Mamluk era recipes, and recipes from the Khedivial kitchens, were also tasted.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities has cooperated with the World Tourism Organization to promote food tourism, which is one of the modern tourism promotion tools, where a number of famous traditional Egyptian dishes where chosen, and the organization prepared a brochure that includes these foods to be distributed to promote food tourism in Egypt.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities received this brochure from the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization during his visit to Egypt last April to participate in the celebration of the Pharaohs’ Golden Parade.
