Mohamed Hatem and Nanda Mohammad star in the award-winning play Clôture de l’Amour from November 11 to 21.

All is fair and love and war: treacherous words and deafening silences pave the strife torn path to love’s end. Written and directed by renowned French playwright Pascal Rambert, Clôture de l’Amour depicts the heart wrenching confrontation that leads to two lovers’ separation.

Since its premiere at the 2011 Festival d’Avignon, Clôture de l’Amour has reaped numerous awards, including the Critics’ Union prize for the Best New French Language play, and the Grand Prize for Dramatic Literature from the French Centre National du Theatre. The play has been translated into ten languages and performed at venues across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the United States.

This upcoming production will star beloved Egyptian actor Mohamed Hatem alongside celebrated Syrian actress Nanda Mohammad, under the directorial impetus of Rambert and assistant director Shaymaa Shoukry.

Pascal Rambert is a pioneer figure of the French contemporary arts scene, whose theater and dance performances have been showcased in over fifteen countries. Throughout his career, Rambert has been appointed director of several theaters in France, including the Theatre de Gennevilliers, which he turned into a national dramatic center for contemporary creation. In 2015, the Academie Francaise recognized his play Repetition with its prestigious Literature and Philosophy Prize.

After graduating from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus in 2001, Nanda Mohammad went on to work with a wide number of acclaimed Syrian and international directors, including Tim Supple, Khaled Al-Tarefi, Henri Jules Julien, and Ahmed El Attar. In 2012, she moved to Egypt, where she pursues work as an actress, as well as voice and acting instructor.

Mohamed Hatem discovered his love of acting while pursuing his Master’s degree in law at Cairo University, where he worked as an actor and director alongside his studies. In 2015, he was cast in the hit television series Tareeqi (My Way), and went on to appear in the wildly successful Grand Hotel the following year. In 2019, Hatem performed in Ahmed El Attar’s play MAMA, which was produced by the Temple Independent Theater Company and premiered at the 2018 Festival d’Avignon.

Clôture de l’Amour will be shown at Rawabet Art Space from 11 to 14 November, and again from 17 to 21 November at 8pm.
