CAIRO – 8 November 2021: Bonhams Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers will launch offers for the sale of Middle Eastern paintings under the title “Baghdadiyat”, starting from November 17.

The auction focuses on 20th-century paintings of Iraqi artists, as well as some Syrian and Egyptian works, such as the works of international Egyptian artist Samir Rafi.

Samir Rafi is an Egyptian artist, born in 1926. His works appeared at the beginning of the mid-1940s.

He was at the forefront that led young people’s thoughts and feelings in the years of anger, rebellion and the overwhelming desire for change after World War II until 1952, where Rafi deposited this content in all his paintings, regardless of their different elements, innovative formations and metaphysical themes.

Rafi’s works are considered classics of modern Egyptian art, and the paintings, which he created in his youth, are still steadfast in the face of time.

One of the paintings that will be auctioned in the Bonhams auction is Samir Rafi’s “The Lady & The Wolf”.

The estimated price of the painting comes between £12,000 and £14,000. This painting was created using oil on a wooden board. The painting was signed on its left side in 1973.
