D-CAF’s performing arts program kicks off with a performance by Chilean collective La Licuadora

D-CAF’s performing arts program  kicked off on 9 October, with a mesmerizing performance by the Chilean collective La Licuadora. 

Sound, dance, and cinema combine in Ruido, a transdisciplinary piece conceived at the intersection of live performance and audiovisual technology. Ruido means noise in Spanish, and through their avant-garde blend of high-tech and raw human sensitivity, the piece’s creators aim to “explore noise as the organic edge of technology.” 

This highly immersive sensory journey is produced by La Licuadora, a Chilean cross-disciplinary performance collective founded in 2017 by choreographer and performer Rodrigo Chaverini. The collective’s work aims to bring contemporary dance into dialogue with other disciplines to create entrancing and innovative sensory experiences. La Licuadora’s projects have been showcased in venues across Europe and Latin America, each featuring fresh and diverse talents from across the world. 

Working alongside Chaverini on Ruido are contemporary dancer Paulo Fernandez Carroza and composer, producer, and singer Emiliana Abril. 

After enchanting audiences in Latin America and Europe, Ruido will make its Arab World Premiere at the Tahrir Cultural Center’s Falaki Theater. The performance will be shown twice on 9 October; at 6pm and at 8pm.

The Tahrir Cultural Center was established to revive the American University in Cairo (AUC)’s strong and important presence in the heart of downtown Cairo, a role which was left unfulfilled since the university’s move to New Cairo. Since its establishment, TCC has come to fill this gap, and has been a proud partner of D-CAF.
