On Friday, 8 October, D-CAF and the Sustainable Fashion Alliance, in collaboration with Fashion Revolution Egypt, Scarabaeus Sacer, and Saqhout will present a day-long program of activities built around the theme of sustainability in fashion.
The program will kick off at 2pm with a workshop entitled Sustainable Style & Recycling Your Old Items. Facilitator Nora Zahran will offer styling tips, ideas, and hacks to style, organize, and shop your own closet in environmentally conscious ways. The workshop will include a fun and instructive practical component where audience members participate in styling three different outfits using the same clothing item.
At 5pm, Norhan Al Sakkout will moderate a panel discussion exploring the landmarks achieved in sustainable fashion in Egypt, as compared with the rest of the world. The panel will feature sustainable fashion experts May Kassem and Noha Zahran, alongside MANND studio founders Maria Herholdt Engermann and Signe Ungermand.
Last but not least, at 6:30pm Norhan El Sakkout will host a screening of Andrew Morgan's powerful documentary film, The True Cost. Filmed in countries all over the world, from the brightest runways to the darkest slums, and featuring interviews with the world’s leading influencers including Stella McCartney, Livia Firth, and Vandana Shiva, The True Cost is an unprecedented project that invites viewers on an eye-opening journey around the world and into the lives of the many people and places behind our clothes. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the host, where audiences can discuss their impressions of the screening and discuss the state of sustainable fashion.
The events will take place at Consoleya, a new coworking and exhibition space located in a historical building in the heart of Downtown Cairo, and a proud collaborator of D-CAF 2021. This showing was made possible by the generous assistance of The Embassy of Denmark in Cairo, who are among the festival’s main supporters.
The Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival is produced by Orient for Film and Theater Productions and co-founded by Al Ismaelia for Real Estate Investment.
