The Clock Tower - Min. of Tourism & Antiquities
CAIRO – 16 September 2021: Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Enani visited the Salah Al-Din Al-Ayyubi Citadel on September 16, to follow up the latest developments in the ongoing restoration and maintenance work in the Mohammad Ali Mosque.
The restoration process includes cleaning the marble floors, restoring the colored inscriptions, lighting the prayer house, and repairing the clock tower, the courtyard, the panorama square and the royal pergola.
This is in addition to following up on the works to develop the services in the area to improve the experience of local and foreign tourists.
During the inspection tour, Enani stressed the need to adhere to the pre-set timings for the completion of restoration and maintenance work and the development of services.
It is worth mentioning that Enani inspected the clock tower, which had been completely restored and whose colors had been revived. Maintenance and re-installation of the stained glass, and the bases of the circular iron columns in the upper part were also carried out.
The repair of the tower’s clock was also completed by Egyptian craftsmen after a period of hiatus that lasted for many years. The necessary experiments are now being prepared for self-filling and for it to ring its bells at specific times as soon as the period of self-filling experiment is completed to ensure its continuous work.
Furthermore, Enani checked a number of services that were provided in the archaeological area, including electric cars that will be designated to transport visitors from one place to another during their tour inside the citadel.
