Tehran’s Book Garden cultural complex unveiled in Iran

CAIRO – 9 July 2017: Tehran’s Book Garden is a cultural center that has been inaugurated on Wednesday, July 5 in Tehran, Iran.

The Iranian Congress Spokesperson Ali Larijani, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and representatives from publishing houses highlighted the importance of spreading reading books among their citizens especially children, in their comments about the opening.

The complex has the world’s largest bookstore especially Persian books suitable for children and adults; it also has green space on the rooftops for reading.

Tehran is featuring the construction of a large cultural hub for the first time.

The place offers specialized books and sources, and other programs such as book café and book treatment clinic, according to an official press release by Tehran Municipality.

“Book Garden of Tehran is being built on an area of 100,000 square meters with an under construction area of 54,719 square meters,” Social and Cultural Affairs Deputy of Tehran Municipality Hadi Ayazi said to Shahrnevesht.

It has several movie theatres, science hall, classrooms, a restaurant, a prayer room and a whole lot of literature," he added.

The idea of constructing the garden has started in 2004 for holding Tehran International Book Fair especially that Tehran has a very rich and ancient that culture the government wants to spread, but its establishment has finished in 2017.

For years, lots of books have been banned from publishing for their inappropriate content as seen by the oppressive regime of Tehran.

However, the “Book Garden” may increase the availability of some books, according to Newsweek website.
