Important world events:
1290 - Jews are expelled from England by the English King Edward I.
1422 - Henry VI ascends the throne of England at the age of nine months after the death of his father, King Henry V.
1876 - The Ottoman Sultan Murad V overthrown due to mental illness, and Abd al-Hamid ibn Abd al-Majid I was assigned as his successor under the name of Sultan Abd al-Hamid II.
1897 - Thomas Edison receives a patent for his motion picture camera, called the Kineograph.
1918 - Bolsheviks attack the British Consulate in Petrograd.
1978 - The disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr while he was in Libya.
1997 - Diana Spencer, the ex-wife of British Crown Prince Charles, and her boyfriend Dodi el-Fayed die in a car crash in the Alma tunnel in France.
2010 - US President Barack Obama announces the end of US military operations in Iraq and that the Iraqis are now responsible for the security of their country.
