CAIRO – 9 July 2017: The Fine Arts Sector announced Sunday that it has completed all the restoration work pertaining Mahmoud Khalil Museum.

The sector is waiting for the new fiscal year to provide financial resources for the full preparation of the museum. Official sources in the Fine Arts Sector pointed out that the rise in the dollar price negatively affected some projects; this is because all the supplies and equipment needed by some projects are imported from abroad.

Mahmoud Khalil Museum is a palace located in the Giza area.

The palace was owned by Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Pasha, who was the Egyptian prime minister twice in 1928 and 1937.

Khalil throughout his life gathered a large collection of valuable impressionist paintings.

Before his death in 1953, Khalil left a will, granting his unique collection to his wife Emiline. Khalil in his will asked his wife to dedicate the palace with all its paintings to the Egyptian government after her death, to be used as a museum.

The museum was opened in July 23, 1962. It contains great artists’ work like Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Claude Monet, Pierre- Auguste Renoir and Auguste Rodin.

The arts collection in this museum is deemed to be amongst the largest personal artefact collections in the Middle East.
