CAIRO – 29 August 2021: After officially inaugurating Wekalat Al-Gedawi in Esna on August 29, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism & Antiquities Khaled el-Enani visited Esna Temple, in order to inspect the latest developments in the restoration works and to follow up on the necessary equipment needed for the development of the entire archaeological area to make it available for local and international tourists as soon as possible.
During the visit, Enani was accompanied by Governor of Luxor Mostafa Elham, American ambassador to Cairo Jonathan Cohen, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri, among others.
Waziri said that the works in the temple included cleaning the layers of soot and dirt, removing salt from the walls and ceiling of the temple, and showing the original colors of the inscriptions, especially the astronomical inscriptions that characterize the roof of the temple.
This is in addition to the development work for the entire surrounding area, which aims to preserve the archaeological site and improve the visitors’ experience and increase the level of competitiveness of the area as a distinct heritage site.
Waziri added that the Services Development Committee is now following up on the work of developing and rehabilitating the site and raising the efficiency of its services, by providing the area with a number of informative panels that tell the history of the area and providing wooden seats and umbrellas to protect visitors from the sun.
This is in addition to making the site suitable for individuals with special needs and providing special corridors to facilitate their movement.
