Head of [NOUH]: Andraus Palace is not registered within Egypt’s Coordination Facilities

CAIRO – 24 August 2021: Since the process of demolishing the historic Andraus Palace, located on the Nile Corniche in Luxor, began, news that the palace is registered within Egypt’s Civil Coordination Facilities circulated on social media platforms.

This news is not true, according to Head of Egypt’s National Organization for Urban Harmony [NOUH] Mohammed Abu Saada.

Saada explained that the palace is located inside the precincts of the Luxor Museum. A recommendation came from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to the governorate that there was an illegal excavation under the palace. A committee was formed to inspect the palace which later recommended that the palace must be demolished as it represents a great risk to human life and could collapse at any time.

“The palace was not originally registered in NOUH, because it has become a dilapidated building, as a result of the illegal excavations taking place under it,” said Saada in press statements.

It is worth noting that the palace was built in the year 1897.
