Egyptian Opera House to commemorate Egypt’s singing legend Mohammed Fawzy on August 19

CAIRO – 16 August 2021: The Egyptian Opera House will commemorate late Egyptian singing legend and musician Mohamed Fawzy on his birth anniversary through a concert performed by the National Arabic Music Ensemble scheduled to be held on August 19 at 8 p.m. at the Fountain Theater.

During the concert’s second part, popular Egyptian star Mohammed el-Helw will perform an anthology of songs originally performed by the late musician and singer Mohammed Fawzy.

Mohammed Fawzy is one of the most famous Egyptian singers, composers, actors and artistic producers in the twentieth century.  Born on August 28, 1918, he turned to music and singing since he was a student at Tanta Primary School. He learned the origins of music at that time at the hands of his father's friend, where he used to accompany him to sing on birthdays, special nights and weddings.

After obtaining his preparatory certificate, he joined the Fouad I Institute of Music in Cairo. He worked in the Badia Masabni Troupe, then the Fatima Rushdi Troupe, and then the National Theater Company.

At the age of twenty, he took the radio exam as a singer and composer, but he was rejected as a singer and approved as a composer.

Fawzy decided to revive Sayed Darwish's work and within three years, Fawzy was able to sit on the throne of musical and show cinema throughout the forties and fifties. 

In 1958, Fawzy founded the first Egyptian company for the production of records which produced records for the great singers of that era, such as Umm Kulthum and Mohammed Abdel Wahab. 

Fawzy passed away on October 20, 1966, leaving an artistic legacy of more than 400 songs, in addition to 36 films.
