CAIRO – 28 July 2021: The Giza Pyramids area received the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo and his accompanying delegation, on the sidelines of their current visit to Egypt.
They were received by Director General of the Pyramid Antiquities Area Ashraf Mohieldin, who accompanied them on a tour inside the first corridor of the Pyramid of Cheops, the Sphinx and Panorama areas.
Mohieldin said that during the visit, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo expressed his admiration for the Pyramids and the way it was built, wondering if the archaeologists were able to find the mummy of King Khufu [Cheops] inside the pyramid, in addition to expressing his fascination with the magnitude of the Sphinx and the accuracy of its carving.
Also, Mohieldin explained the history of sculpting the statue, and the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to restore and preserve it from groundwater.
The delegation was then accompanied to the Panorama Area, where the Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation were keen to take memorial photos to document their visit.
At the end of the tour, the Congolese Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation expressed their happiness for visiting the Great Giza Pyramids, which they described as one of the most important monuments in the world.
