CAIRO – 26 July 2021: On July 26, many important events took place.

 

 

Important world events:

 

657 - The Battle of Siffin takes place on the banks of the Euphrates River in Iraq, between the army of the Caliph of the Muslims, Ali bin Abi Talib, and the army of the Governor of the Levant Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan. The clashes between them lasted for three days and ended without a resolution.

 

 

1952 - King Farouk abdicates the throne to his son, Prince Ahmed Fouad, and appoints a Regency Council headed by Prince Mohamed Abdel Moneim. He then leaves Egypt with his wife, Queen Nariman, and the rest of his family, including the new king, Ahmed Fouad. This comes days after the July 23 revolution.

 

 

1956 - Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalizes the Suez Canal.
