CAIRO – 1 July 2021: The third edition of the Egyptian Civilization and Heritage Month kicked off in Canada’s Ontario province following a parliament vote to be a law and part of the constitution.
The month started activities for the first time in 2019.
Uniquely, this year's version saw the participation of several Egyptian communities not only in Ontario, but also in other provinces.
The 2021 month is held under the auspices of Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli.
Madbouli's sponsoring of such events reflects the Egyptian state's belief in the effective role played by Egyptian communities abroad to serve their homeland.
Over the past few years, the Egyptian community in Canada played an effective role that was crowned by proclaiming the month of July every year as Egyptian Heritage Month.
Chairman of the Nile Association of Ontario (NAO) Mohamed el- Halwagy told MENA on Thursday that a big dream has come true following holding month-long celebrations to mark the great ancient Egyptian civilization.
Halwagy said Egyptians in Canada are lucky to enjoy such a privilege.
The Legislative Assembly of Ontario has approved a resolution to recognize July of every year as the Egyptian Heritage Month in the province.
