Waheed Hamed to receive BIAF award for El-Gamaa TV show

CAIRO – 8 July 2017: The veteran Egyptian author and renowned script writer Waheed Hamed will receive today an award from the Beirut International Awards Festival (BIAF) in the Lebanese capital Beirut.

Hamed is awarded this honorable prize for his latest soap opera El-Gamaa Part 2 which achieved a booming success and stirred controversy with its portrayal of the history of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Hamed announced yesterday that he will travel to Lebanon today to receive the award.
“BIAF always honours talented artists; this is the 8th year for BIAF festival,’’ said BIAF President Michael Daher. The annual event selects international recipients for its awards from the fields of art, culture, music, politics, finance and humanitarian service.

Hamed is one of the most famous script writers in Egypt. He was born July 1, 1944 in the village of Beni Quraish in Sharqia governorate. He started his career as a drama writer in the late 1960s.

Hamed first successful series was Ahlam Al-Fatta Al-Taaer (Dreams of a Flying Boy) starring actor Adel Emam in 1978.

Hamed is known for his fierce opposition of religious fundamentalism.

He is considered a robust opponent of the Muslim Brotherhood and this was clear in his latest series El-Gamaa Part 2.
