Egypt’s tourism & antiquities min. convenes with German Commissioner of Federal Government for Tourism Thomas Bareiß

CAIRO – 23 June 2021: During his current visit to the German capital, Berlin, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled el-Enani began his official meetings by holding a meeting with Thomas Bareiß, Minister of State at the Ministry of Economy and Energy, and Commissioner of the Federal Government for Tourism in Germany.

This came within the framework of the intensive official meetings held by the Enani in the German capital, Berlin, to accelerate the tourism movement to Egypt.

Thomas Bareiß started the meeting by welcoming Enani, meeting him for the second time in Germany, as the first meeting was last September.

Bareiß was also keen to congratulate Enani on the Pharaohs’ Golden Parade, which was organized by Egypt last April and witnessed by the whole world, expressing his and his family's keenness in watching the activities of this exceptional event, praising its immaculate organization, which came in a manner befitting Egypt and its civilization.

Furthermore, Bareiß pointed out that the procession contributed significantly to increasing Germans' passion for the Egyptian civilization, encouraging them to visit Egypt and enjoy its distinguished tourist attractions and museums.

During the meeting, Enani reviewed the efforts made by the Egyptian state to confront the global pandemic, referring to the precautionary measures and health safety controls that are applied in tourist and hotel establishments, tourist resorts, museums, archaeological sites, airports, airlines and tourism activities to ensure the health and safety of workers in the tourism sector, tourists and citizens.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled el-Enani also spoke about the current situation in the tourism file in Egypt, where the Minister of State at the Ministry of Economy and Energy and the Federal Government Commissioner for Tourism in Germany shared the numbers and numbers of inbound tourism to Egypt since the resumption of the tourist movement on July 1, 2020.

He stressed that the number of tourists visiting Egypt has increased significantly, especially since the beginning of 2021, pointing out that the average number of inbound tourism to Egypt during the past three months exceeded 500,000 tourists per month from 20 countries in the world.

This is in addition to opening new markets exporting tourism to Egypt, which reflects the confidence of governments, tour operators and citizens in these markets in the accuracy and safety of the precautionary measures that Egypt applies with all rigor and seriousness.

Enani also indicated that Germany is one of the main markets exporting tourism to Egypt, as during 2018 and 2019, about 1,700,000 German tourists visited Egypt each year.

Moreover, during the meeting, Enani stressed the need to consider travel warnings for travel to Egypt in order to reflect the tourist situation, especially in the Egyptian tourist resorts, which witness the lowest infection rate in the world due to their open places, warm atmosphere, sunny beaches and beautiful landscapes, in addition to its low population density, which encourages tourists to travel there.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled el-Enani also spoke about his meeting with a large number of representatives of major German tour operators during his participation as a keynote speaker at the round table organized by the German Near and Middle East Association NUMOV under the title "Egypt", those who expressed their strong desire for the German authorities to take a decision to ease travel bans for Egyptian tourist resorts, especially in light of the great demand from the German market to visit Egypt and enjoy its incredible and distinguished tourist attractions.
