1800 - The French military commander General Kléber is assassinated in the garden of his palace in Cairo by Al-Azhar student Suleiman el-Halabi.

 

 

1830 - French forces land in the port of Sidi Farag to occupy Algeria.

 

 

1900 - Hawaii becomes part of the United States.
