CAIRO – 1 June 2021: On June 1, the Supreme Council of Culture will hold its 65thannual meeting, headed by Egypt’s Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem, to vote on the winners of the State Awards.
The meeting will be held in the Grand Theater of the Egyptian Opera House.
As a precautionary measure to battle the COVID-19, the meeting’s attendance will be limited to the council members who have the right to vote to select the country’s 36 winners.
The meeting will mainly be dedicated to voting for the winners of the various state awards from the the names that were nominated by the examination committees that worked over the past months.
The awards include the Nile award, the Appreciation award, and the Excellence award given in the three main areas: Arts, Literature and Social Sciences. This is in addition to the State Encouragement Awards which were approved by its inspection committees in the announced branches.
It is worth noting that the current meeting is also set to find a solution for the “gap year” problem, so that the State Appreciation Award and the State Encouragement Award can finally share agreeing grant years with the Nile Prize and the Excellence Award.
The meeting will also witness the approval of reconfiguring the divisions of the council’s four committees after adding the Division for Policy and Cultural Development. This division was created within the structure of the council’s committees.
