CAIRO - 21 May 2021: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi mourned death of veteran Egyptian actor Samir Ghanem.
“I mourn with great sadness and sorrow the death of artist Samir Ghanem, who left our world yesterday, leaving behind him a great legacy of works that drew a smile on the faces of Egyptians and the Arab nation, as the late was the best model for the artist who lived to spread joy and make everyone happy. May God have mercy upon the late artist soul and give his family patience and solace” President Sisi wrote via his official Twitter account.
Ghanem passed away on May 20, at the age of 84.
Before Ghanem death, Egyptian TV presenter Ramy Radwan asked everyone during his program “DMC Evening” broadcast on the DMC satellite channel to pray for the fast recovery of Ghanem and his wife renowned actress Dalal Abdul Aziz, who were both transferred to hospital earlier in May as their health condition deteriorated.
Ghanem -who passed away of COVID-19- is a distinguished Egyptian comedian and entertainer. He was a member of the stand-up comedy trio Tholathy Adwa'a El-Masrah alongside late comedians George Sidhom and El-Deif Ahmed.
After El-Deif Ahmed's death in 1970, Ghanem and Sidhom continued under the same name “Tholathy Adwa'a El-Masrah” until the 1980s.
In 2017, Ghanem received the Faten Hamama Honorary and Excellence Award, as testament to the vital role he has played in the film scene and his immense contribution to Egyptian cinema.
Ghanem’s filmography includes over 40 films, between 1964 and the present. Among Ghanem’s best known roles is the comic character of Fatota, a famous TV classic from the 1980s.
Some of Ghanem's most notable films include “El-Regala Fi Khatar”, “Tegbha Keda Tegelha Keda Heya Keda”, “Awlad Al-Halal”, "Mogrem Raghm Anfoh” among others.
Ghanem is the father of popular Egyptian actresses Donia Samir Ghanem and Amy Samir Ghanem.
