325 - The first Ecumenical Council of the Churches of the World convenes in Nicaea.
526 - Earthquake in Syria kills 300,000 people.
1622 - Janissaries kill Sultan Osman II. This leads to the return of the former Sultan Mustafa I to the throne of the Ottoman Empire.
1927 - The United Kingdom recognizes the sovereignty of King Abdul Aziz bin Saud over the Kingdom of Hejaz and Nejd, according to the Treaty of Jeddah.
1948 - The Security Council approves a cease-fire in Palestine and appoints Count Folke Bernadotte as mediator.
