CAIRO – 13 May 2021: Director of the Coptic Museum Jihan Atef confirmed the museum's readiness to receive visitors during Eid al-Fitr from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Atef affirmed that visitors will not allowed to enter the museum without wearing a face mask. Social distancing will be strictly applied in addition to other precautions to battle the global pandemic.
The construction of the Coptic Museum began in 1908 at the hands of Mark Smika Pasha (1944-1864), the first director of an Egyptian Museum. The museum officially opened on March 14, 1910.
The museum is located in Misr al-Qadima (Complex of Religions), within the walls of the Roman fortress of Babylon, surrounded by a group of the oldest and most important churches in Egypt.
