Sheikh Zayed Book Award expresses disappointment at Habermas' retreat from accepting award

CAIRO – 3 May 2021: The Sheikh Zayed Book Award expressed disappointment at the German philosopher Jürgen Habermas's retreat from his pre-acceptance of the award, but respects his decision.

The award embodies the values of tolerance, knowledge, creativity and building bridges between cultures, and it will continue to fulfill this mission.

The award announced in advance that the German philosopher Jürgen Habermas had been chosen to win the Cultural Personality of the Year Award, in recognition of his rich intellectual career that extends for more than half a century.

Habermas made qualitative and profound contributions to the field of philosophy in a way that enriched many disciplines.

The winners of the fifteenth session of the award will be honored during a virtual ceremony that will be organized in conjunction with the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
