CAIRO - 26 April 2021: The 93rd Academy Awards was different as the red carpet was hemmed and the after-parties were cut.
The Academy Awards ceremony was held almost two months later than usual, at an in-person event split between the Dolby Theater in Hollywood and Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.
The best director award went to Chloé Zhao for “Nomadland,” becoming the first woman of color to win the award, and the second woman ever to win.
Yuh-Jung Youn became the first Korean actress to win an acting Oscar, for her supporting role in “Minari” movie.
Daniel Kaluuya won the best supporting actor award for his portrayal of Fred Hampton in “Judas and the Black Messiah” movie.
Frances McDormand was awarded the best-actress award for her role in “Nomadland”.
Anthony Hopkins received the best actor award for god role in “The Father” movie over the late Chadwick Boseman.
Nomadland movie received the Best Picture award on a night when the statuettes were split between a number of films, with no single movie dominating.
“Another Round “ was named Best International Feature Film, allowing director Thomas Vinterberg to pay moving tribute to his late daughter.
"Nomadland" was only the second film directed by a woman to be named Best Picture.
Two of the stylists behind "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" became the first ever Black winners in the Makeup and Hair category.
Steven Yeun of "Minari" was the first Asian American and Riz Ahmed of "Sound of Metal" the first Muslim to be nominated for Best Actor, though both lost to Anthony Hopkins.
The Best Original song award went to "Fight For You" from "Judas and the Black Messiah"
The Best Animated Feature Film Award went to “Soul”.
The Best Visual Effects award went to “Tenet”.
The Best International Feature Film award went to the Danish movie “Another Round".
"If Anything Happens I Love You" received the Best Animated Short Film award.
The Best Adapted Screenplay award went to Christopher Hampton and Florian Zeller, "The Father".
The Best Original Screenplay award went to Emerald Fennell, "Promising Young Woman".
"Two Distant Strangers" received the Best Live Action Short Film Award.
"My Octopus Teacher" received the best Documentary Feature award.
"Mank," David Fincher's film about "Citizen Kane" co-writer Herman Mankiewicz, led the way with 10 nominations and took home awards for cinematography and production design.
There was no host for the ceremony of the 93rd Academy Awards.
