CAIRO – 13 April 2021: The German News Agency shed light on a tour with renowned archaeologist Zahi Hawass, while he was explaining the secrets of the Lost City that was discovered in Luxor.
The news agency reported that prominent archaeologist Zahi Hawass held an artifact while talking to a journalist before a press conference on the newly discovered 3,000-year-old "Lost City".
Hawass and head of the Egyptian mission that discovered the largest residential, administrative and industrial city in the west of Luxor, revealed new secrets and details about the discovery of the lost city “Rising of Aten”, which includes a series of houses that confirm that the western mainland had life in it and not just burials as it was always believed.
Hawass stressed that this discovery resulted in the unveiling of the largest archaeological city found so far. The city dates back to the era of the greatest king of Egypt, King Amenhotep III, who ruled Egypt from 1391 BC.
"We uncovered a very small part of the city, which confirms that it is the largest ancient city found so far. I named it the Golden City because it was built in the golden age of Egypt, the era of Amenhotep III. I also called it the “Lost” city because its name was known and recorded with the names of some princes in the western valleys, but no archaeologist expected that it would be possible to discover that city. It was a very big surprise to me because I was looking for temples. This city confirms that the Egyptian civilization is not a civilization of death, nor a civilization without cities,” said Hawass.
