Egypt’s Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum entry will be free of charge for one month

CAIRO - 6 April 2021:Egypt’s Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem inaugurated on April 4, Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum, affiliated to the Fine Arts Sector.

The inaugural ceremony was held in the presence of an elite group of artists, the ministry's leaders and the media.

This comes after the museum had been closed for more than 10 years.

Abdel Dayem said that Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum is one of the manifestations of Egypt's soft powers and is a rich addition to the country's cultural structure, as it includes rare collections of masterpieces from the most important creations of the human civilization.

On this occasion Abdel Dayem announced that the museum entry will be free of charge for one month.

Also, Abdel Dayem emphasized museums of various types preserve bright pages of the human history and help raise awareness and building stable personalities.

For his part, the head of the Plastic Arts Sector previously  said that Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum is one of the most important museums in the world due to the valuable collections it exhibits.

The museum was closed in 2010 and development work began in 2014.

The museum houses 304 paints.

Founded by Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil, the museum housed high-value art collections.

Before passing away in 1953, Khalil had granted these objects to his wife to give them and the palace to the Egyptian government after her death, to be used for cultural purposes.

The palace opened as a museum for the first time in 1962.

It was then transferred to Prince Amr Ibrahim's palace in Zamalek in 1971, and then reopened in Zamalek in 1979.

The museum's holdings include a rare collection of Japanese-style Enro cases, which occupy the ground floor of the museum, along with the first and second floors, while the  administration, library, information center and a large hall for research discussion occupy the basement.
