CAIRO – 21 February 2020: Egypt’s industrial production index for transformative and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, hiked 2 percent, recording LE 99.15 (primary) during December 2020, compared to LE 97.23 (final) during November 2020, the state's statistics body said.

The index of the pharmaceutical, chemical and pharmaceutical industries reached 121.76 during the month of December, compared to November, where it reached 118.44, marking an increase of 2.8percent, due to the increase in demand for medicine, industrial detergents and disinfectants due to the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) pointed out that the index for the manufacture of non-metallic minerals products (bricks, glass and cement) was 89.26 in December compared to November, reaching 83.67, with an increase of 6.7 percent due to the increased demand for building materials.

Moreover, the beverage industry recorded 101.62 during the month of December compared to November, to 104.38, with a decrease of 2.6 percent due to the decrease in demand with the presence of the winter season.

The readymade garment industry index decreased 3.6 percent reaching 82.41 during December 2020 compared to November 2020, when it reached 85.51, due to a shortage of supply contracts.
