CAIRO – 10 February 2021: The General Authority for Land and Dry Ports and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed an agreement on Wednesday in the presence of Minister of Transport Kamel Al-Wazir and Minister of International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat.

 

The agreement stipulates the allocation of a grant in the amount of €1 million to provide advisory services for launching a project for the construction of the dry port and logistical center in the tenth of Ramadan city, with the participation of the private sector in an international tender, provided that it includes (pre-qualification of alliances to enter the tender, preparation of the conditions book Contract preparation).

 

The agreement was signed for the first side by Amr Ismail, head of the Land and Dry Ports Authority, and for the second side, Haik Hamgart, Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Finance.

 

For his part, the Minister of Transport said that the signing of the agreement comes within the framework of the political leadership's directives to implement a comprehensive plan to establish a network of dry ports and logistical centers nationwide, which includes the establishment of (8) dry ports on the sixth of October which is being implemented - the tenth of Ramadan. - New Damietta - New Burj Al Arab - New Beni Suef - New Sohag - Sadat - Al Tour).

 

He added that it also includes the establishment of five logistical centers (the logistic center in the sixth of October - the logistic center in the tenth of Ramadan - the logistic center in Sallum - the logistic center in Barqin - the logistic center in Qastal) to serve the movement of domestic and international trade.

 

He stressed that taking into account the availability of these ports and regions in both Upper and Lower Egypt in sites that were selected according to scientific bases.

 

He referred to the Ministry of Transport’s plan in the field of achieving sustainable green transport in all sectors (railways, metros, roads and bridges), as well as employing transportation services technology and applying smart transportation systems to achieve the integration of transport network management, which maximizes the benefit from them with the aim of reducing fuel consumption, preserving public health and reducing Harmful emissions, which are among the most important targets of green transportation.

 

The minister explained that the area of ​​the project (the dry port and the logistic center) is 250 acres, and it has been divided into two areas (the first zone: with an area of ​​190 acres designated for the construction of the dry port, and the second zone: with an area of ​​60 acres designated for the establishment of the logistic center).

 

He pointed out that the project will serve the industrial zone in the tenth of Ramadan and will contribute to maintaining the road network by transporting goods to and from sea ports through the railway network and river transport, especially from the ports of Alexandria, Dekheila and Damietta, as well as reducing congestion in sea ports, and maximizing the benefit from the ongoing expansion Implement them to those ports.

 

"It also works to achieve competitive advantages for investment in Egypt by improving the rates of time spent in completing customs clearance and export procedures and reducing the financial and environmental costs of import and export movement through the use of railways, which contributes to reducing inflation, improving the competitiveness of Egyptian exports and preserving the environment,” he added.
