CAIRO – 17 December 2020: Egypt’s exports of furniture amounted to about $190 million during the first ten months of 2020, according to Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea.
Gamea confirmed, in a statement, Thursday, that the furniture industry contributes significantly to enhancing Egyptian exports to foreign markets, noting that the advancement of the furniture industry is at the top of the ministry's priorities during the current stage, as the ministry is keen to provide all forms of support for this industry as one of the promising industries, in which Egypt has great competitive advantages.
She explained that the handicraft sector contributed about $165 million to Egypt's total exports abroad during the period from January to October of 2020.
This came during the inauguration of the Minister of Trade and Industry on behalf of the Prime Minister of the twenty-sixth session of the annual Al-Ahram Furniture and Decoration Exhibition "Indoors" and the Al-Ahram Handicrafts Exhibition (AHS) in its first session, which are organized by Al-Ahram Advertising Agency during the period from 17 to 20 December At the Cairo International Conference Center in Nasr City.
The Minister indicated that this session of the indoors exhibition is witnessing great momentum, as it is held on an area of 7,000 square meters, with the participation of about 50 companies specialized in furniture and decoration.
The handicrafts exhibition is held on an area of 1,500 meters and with the participation of more than 80 companies and exhibitors specialized in handicrafts. This exhibition enjoys the distinguished participation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Small, Medium and Micro Enterprise Development Agency.
She emphasized that the ministry is keen to provide all means of support for the heritage industries and handicrafts sector and expand its promotion and highlight the characteristics of originality and heritage that are unique to the Egyptian crafts.
