CAIRO – 1 July 2017: Seven companies have reportedly applied to obtain cement production licenses, first issued by the government in 2016, unnamed sources from the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) said on Saturday.
The IDA will extend the application period for tenders to the end of 2017 to lure more bidders for the 11 remaining licenses available to establish cement factories in nine governorates, the source told Egypt Today.
Three companies have already been awarded three licenses, out of a total 14 licenses originally available. The companies are Egyptian Cement, El Sewedy Cement and Ganoub El Wadi Cement.
The value of each license is LE 180 million ($9,949,150) and potential factory sites are located in the governorates of Minya, Sohag, Qena, Aswan, New Valley, Marsa Matrouh, Suez and South Sinai.
