BP starts natural gas production from Kattameya field

CAIRO – 26 October 2020: British Petroleum (BP) announced Monday the start of gas production from its latest offshore exploration in Egypt, in partnership with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), the Kattameya field.

The Kattameya field is located in the North Damietta offshore concession area.

This field has been developed through the Pharaonic Joint Stock Company (EGAS / BP), which is expected to produce 50 million cubic feet of gas per day from one well that has been linked to the subsea infrastructure.

The Regional Director for North Africa Karim Alaa, commented that BP's assets and existing marine infrastructure have contributed to the effective and economic development of the Katameya field, which embodies a good example of how the development of hydrocarbon resources is compatible with global economic changes and this is a key part of BP’s strategy for development

The Kattameya field was discovered in 2017. It is located about 45 km west of the Habi platform at a depth of 108 meters, which is part of the North Damietta marine concession and was linked through a 50 km pipeline that extends to the Torte and Habi fields, and it is controlled by the utilities below the water via a 50 km link.

BP owns 100 percent of the North Damietta concession in the eastern Nile Delta, and the gas produced from this field is pumped to the national gas network.
