CAIRO - 24 September 2020: Transportation Minister Kamel el Wazir held talks late Tuesday with Hungary’s new ambassador in Cairo on promoting cooperation in the various transportation fields.

He lauded the current Egyptian-Hungarian cooperation in the transportation field represented in a deal to provide 1,300 rail cars worth 16 million euros, describing it as the biggest deal in Egypt's railway history.

The coaches will be supplied by the Russian-Hungarian consortium, led by Transmashholding, the largest manufacturer of locomotives and rail equipment in Russia.

This deal will highly boost the quality of services offered to railway passengers, he added.

He affirmed the need for abiding by the timetable for the delivery of the new wagons.

The Ministry of Transportation aims at customizing the railway industry in Egypt by establishing the first factory for electric wagons in the Suez Canal Economic Zone through the public and private sector partnership to manufacture units for the railways, metro, monorail and tram, he added.

This field could provide an opportunity for fruitful cooperation between Egypt and friendly countries such as Hungary, he said.
