CAIRO – 29 August 2020: Egypt has exported a total of 674,480 tons of potatoes to world market, especially the European Union countries, since April 2020, according to Head of Central Administration of Plant Quarantine at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Ahmed al-Attar.
He added in special remarks to Youm7 on Friday that the administration applies the measures of exportation and tightens control over the exporting companies.
Al Attar said that the potato crop ranks number two in Egypt’s agricultural exports due to its quality and the increase in production.
He continued that new exportation outlets will be opened besides the usual outlets which stumbled due to the lockdown of some countries because of the coronavirus outbreak.
In May 2020, exports of vegetables and fruits have increased to 1,770,000 tons since the beginning of 2020.
The Agriculture Ministry, represented by the Central Administration of Agricultural Quarantine, continues to expand in new markets within the framework of the efforts to increase agricultural exports following the international export quality standards, and to apply export traceability systems during the stages of agriculture, production, packaging and exportation.
