CAIRO - 26 August 2020: Trade and Industry Minister Nevine Gamae has urged quick action to finalize procedures to export Egyptian pomegranate to China.
In a telephone conversation with Chinese Ambassador in Cairo Liao Liqiang earlier Wednesday, Gamae discussed measures to increase trade flow between Cairo and Beijing in the coming stage.
She made it clear that her Ministry will coordinate action with the crops export council so that China gets a new list of Egyptian crops of high demand in the Asian country.
She hailed as “strategic” relations between Cairo and Beijing, underlining shared visions of the political leadership here and there.
The Trade and Industry Ministry is keen on supporting joint cooperation with China as part of such comprehensive, strategic ties, Gamae stressed.
The minister said Egypt is seeking China’s help to support Dr Abdel Hamid Mamdouh, an Egyptian candidate for the World Trade Organization (WTO) director general post.
Cairo also wants to benefit from Beijing’s expertise where small and nano-sized industries are concerned, she added.
China is number 20 in the list of countries investing in Egypt, with about $7.2 billion pumped into 1,736 projects in the Arab country until the end of 2018.
Trade exchange between the two sides amounted to some $5.2 billion during the first seven months of this year
