Egypt, WB discuss project to manage air pollution in Greater Cairo

CAIRO - 19 July 2020: Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy attended Sunday a meeting with a World Bank delegation to discuss an outlined WB project to manage air pollution and climate change in Greater Cairo.

 
The meeting, which was held via video conference, was also attended by the ministers of international cooperation and environment.
 
The project is estimated to cost some 200 million dollars with the aim to limit the pollution problem and implement plans to manage solid waste systems in Cairo, Giza and Qalyoubiya.
 
Shaarawy said his Ministry is keen on rendering successful all projects carried out in cooperation with international partners, atop of which the World Bank.
 
An integrated complex should be established over 1,200 feddans in the 10th of Ramadan city as part of the project in order to recycle solid waste, the minister said in a statement.
 
The project also focuses on reducing gas emissions from vehicles and transport buses by turning them into environment-friendly objects, he added.
 
He touched upon efforts by the government to maximize the use of new energy and expand the usage of electric and gas-run vehicles.
