German Reconstruction Bank offers ‎€41.5M to develop technical education in Egypt

CAIRO – 15 June 2020: The Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education and the German Reconstruction Bank signed a joint agreement to develop and qualify a number of competence centers in applied technology schools and technical education schools with a value of ‎€41.5 million.

The agreement includes the establishment of centers of competence specializing in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency in applied technology schools in Hurghada and Aswan, according to a statement issued on Monday, June 15.

The agreement is divided into a facilitated loan of ‎€20 million, in addition to a grant of ‎€18 million from the Federal Republic of Germany. The Arab Republic of Egypt also contributes the remaining share of ‎€3.5 million, as an in-kind contribution.

The agreement aims to establish centers of competence specializing in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency in applied technology schools in Hurghada and Aswan, and the development and rehabilitation of a number of efficiency centers in applied technology schools and other technical education schools in the governorates of Greater Cairo, Alexandria and West Delta.

The General Authority for Educational Buildings contributes to the implementation of this national project with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education because of its great experience in establishing schools and educational complexes. Egypt Foundation will help to encourage the participation of the private sector in the management of the competency centers and in providing training and employment opportunities for students.
