CAIRO - 16 April 2020: Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el Saeed has said that her ministry is working on updating the economic dimension of the National Sustainable Development Strategy (Egypt's Vision 2030), amid the current economic repercussions caused by the global outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
In a statement released on Thursday, Saeed added that the state is exerting efforts to localize the strategy goals across the nation, with a view to maximizing the benefit from the comparative advantages of all Egyptian governorates.
She went on to say that around 60 workshops were organized to raise awareness about the eight goals of the updated strategy, as well as preparing a collective working paper in cooperation with 44 bodies to achieve its objectives.
On her part, Howaida Barakat, head of the ministry's sustainable development unit, said the private sector plays a key role in the strategy's economic dimension, besides the civil society’s main part in attaining the community goals, preserving environment and increasing societal awareness.
Barakat noted that the government is working to support municipalities, through training, education and data automation.
She underlined the importance of cooperation among the private sector, civil society and the government in eradicating poverty and creating jobs for young people, along with investing in human capital development.
