CAIRO – 14 April 2020: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli toured Tuesday General Motors Factory in Egypt, accompanied by Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El-Gazzar, and Minister of Trade and Industry Nevein Gamea.
Madbouli indicated that the visit to the General Motors Egypt factory comes within the framework of following up the implementation of the precautionary and preventive measures taken by the state to confront the emerging Corona virus and limit its spread,
He emphasized the importance to protect workers in all locations and factories, and pursuing the production to achieve economic growth, pointing out that the state is keen on supporting industry in this critical stage.
Madbouli noted that the decision to exclude factory workers from curfew will continue in order to keep the process of production and industrialization.
Board chairman of General Motors Tarek Atta, said that General Motors was the first private factory for producing vehicles in Egypt as it was founded in 1983 and its production started in 1985.
Atta added that General Motors produced 870,000 vehicles in Egypt, 50 percent of them were produced during the past ten years including pick-ups, buses and small vehicles.
He added that the company's total investments during the past five years hit $120 million and while its capital in 2018 was estimated at $90 million.
