CAIRO - 16 January 2020: International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashat said that Germany is one of Egypt's best development partners in line with the Egyptian government's priorities.
This came at a meeting of the minister with a delegation of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), in presence of German Ambassador in Cairo Cyrill Nunn.
They discussed means of strengthening economic and development cooperation between Egypt and Germany with the view to achieving the Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS): Egypt Vision 2030.
Germany tops European countries in the volume of economic cooperation with Egypt, the minister said, citing existing cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation or (GIZ) and KfW Development Bank.
The two sides discussed the Egyptian-German cooperation strategy in the coming stage that focuses on the water resources, irrigation, solid waste, renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors, the sustainable development sector, including the fields of education and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and the cooperation sector in several fields through the German contribution to several urban development projects, administrative reform, social development and women's empowerment.
The value of the current cooperation portfolio between Egypt and Germany is estimated at nearly 1.69 billion euros and it includes 50 projects, most notably the rehabilitation of hydropower plants, the school feeding program, sanitation, in addition to projects being implemented to improve drinking water and sanitation services, infrastructure and public services and develop SMEs.
