CAIRO – 17 June 2017: The Ministry of Housing, utilities and Urban development has completed 420 water and sanitation projects at a cost of LE 28.7 billion in the past three years, the ministry said Saturday.
Of the 420 built, 136 were drinking water projects. The 136 projects for drinking water pump a total capacity of 2.76 million cubic meters a day. The drinking water projects come at a LE 18.4 billion price tag that serves 16 million citizens, Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouly said in a statement.
An additional 61 projects are sanitation plants that will operate at a capacity of 2.9 million cubic meters a day, at a cost of LE 5.9 billion. These 61 projects will service three million citizens. The remaining 227 projects are sanitation projects in villages with a value of LE 4.4 billion.W
There are 793 water and sanitation projects currently under construction, totaling LE 60 billion in costs.
