Russia allocates $190M to infrastructure of Dabaa nuclear plant

CAIRO – 23 October 2019: Russia has allocated $190 million to the infrastructure of Egypt's Dabaa nuclear plant, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Wednesday.

During the Egyptian-Russian summit in Sochi, Putin said that Egypt and Russia cooperate in fighting against terrorism. The Russian president also referred to the trade cooperation between the two countries, the construction of the Russian Industrial Zone in Egypt, and the establishment of the Dabaa nuclear plant.

The Russia-Africa Summit and Economic Forum is held onOctober 23-24, 2019 at the Sochi Olympic Park Main Media Centre and is co-chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President and African Union Chairman Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi.

Earlier in October, Deputy Chairman of the Nuclear Energy Authority Abdel Hamid el-Desoky stated that an alliance will be announced soon between Egypt and Russia to manufacture some parts of Dabaa's nuclear reactors that have a capacity of 4800 MW.

Desoky added that a feasibility study is being conductedto manufacture parts of the nuclear reactors in Egypt, pointing out that the domestic manufacturing of nuclear energy will be expanded to reach 35 percent upon receiving the four reactors in 2029.

Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, to be constructed by Rosatom in Egypt, is planned to be similar to Russia’s Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant, having an installed capacity of 4,200 MWe and supplying 50 percent of the energy consumed in Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
