Cairo, GE discuss offer to supply Egypt with 100-200 railcars

CAIRO – 9 June 2017: Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr discussed with the CEO of General Electric (GE) North East Africa, Ayman Khattab, the company’s offer to supply Egypt with 100-200 railcars. According to a statement released on Friday by the ministry, 35 percent of the railcars will be produced in Egypt.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Transportation Hesham Arafat, with the two ministers asserting that the offer has to comply with the highest international standards, be in line with the government’s reform program and meet the Egyptian people’s demands.

Nasr also welcomed GE’s keenness to increase its investments in Egypt, read the statement.

Meanwhile, Khattab voiced the company’s desire to contribute to the development process in Egypt and to support the government’s targets in order to boost economic growth and augment human capabilities.

Khattab pointed to the role played by GE to upgrade the transportation networks, particularly with regards to the transport of goods via railways; in a way that will cut transport costs, reduce traffic congestion and limit road accidents.

He further noted that the company seeks to invest in Egypt in the renewable energy sector by carrying out projects aimed at generating solar power and wind power.
