CAIRO – 4 June 2017: Two technological parks in Sadat City in northwest Cairo and Beni Suef are currently establishing, undersecretary of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) Abdel Nasser Awad said.
Awad said, during a Sunday meeting with the Parliament’s Communication and Technology Committee, that each park is expected to create 15,000 job opportunities.
“President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has assigned the Minister of Communication to build a technological park in each governorate,” Awad added.
Other two technological parks in Borg al-Arab in Alexandria and Assiut have been built over the past 12 months, according to Awad.
Technological parks are equipped with uninterruptible power supply and high-speed communication connections, to serve companies, organizations and management offices.
The GDP of the communication and information technology (ICT) sector has grown to LE 15.13 billion ($84 million) in Q1 FY2016/17, compared to LE 13.61 billion in the same period in the previous fiscal year, pushing the contribution of the sector to the whole GDP to 3 percent.
In a report published by the Ministry of Planning in January, the indicators showed that the ICT sector growth increased to 11.2 percent in the current fiscal year, up from 8.5 percent in FY2015/16, to be the fastest growing sector, followed by 8.3 percent growth in the construction sector.
