CAIRO - 4 November 2018: Minister of Transport Hisham Arafat said work on doubling Safaga road in the direction Marsa Alam for a length of 195 kilometers is going on according to schedule with a total cost of EGP 1.5 billion.
In statements on Sunday, Arafat said the project aims at easing traffic to tourist development areas and limiting the occurrence of accidents on the road.
The project comes as part of of a comprehensive plan to double the directions of roads along the Red Sea coast, the minister said, adding that the third phase of the national road project carried out by the Transport Ministry would cost EGP 17 billion. The project aims at doubling around 1,000 kilometers of roads leading to the Red Sea coast.
The third phase also comprises the development of Cairo/Assiut road, Assiut/Sohag road/Suez tunnel road as well as establishing a center for the service of trucks on Cairo/Suez road, added the minister.
The project of doubling Safaga/Marsa Alam will be finalized during the second half of 2019.
