CAIRO – 6 September 2018: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi discussed Wednesday with Uzbek President Shavkat Miromonovich ways to strengthen and develop bilateral relations between the two countries in various realms. Egypt Today highlighted the most important signed agreements during Sisi’s visit.
Agreement for cooperation in fighting terrorism
The two presidents reached an agreement on forming a joint working team for cooperation in fighting terrorism and extremism along with organized crime within the framework of Islam’s instructions, said Egyptian presidential spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi. Egypt’s and Uzbekistan’s populations are predominantly Muslims.
Economic relations to reach the level of political relations between the two countries
Sisi discussed with his Uzbek counterpart the economic reform experiences in the two countries and the major national projects implemented by Egypt recently.
At a joint press conference, Sisi noted that he discussed with President Mirziyoyev cooperation in the domains of energy and auto manufacturing along with tourism and culture. He added that the two sides underlined the necessity of promoting economic relations to reach the level of political relations between the two countries.
Cooperation agreements between the two countries
The two sides also attended the signing ceremony of several cooperation agreements. The agreements seek boosting joint cooperation between the foreign ministries of both countries along with enhancing relations in the domains of investments, sports, agriculture, justice, tourism and culture, the statement reported.
Sisi’s visit to Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, is considered the first official visit of its kind by an Egyptian president. Egypt and Uzbekistan share bilateral relations since the latter was recognized independent.
CAIRO - 3 September 2018: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi is set to conclude his Asian tour by visiting Uzbekistan within the next few days. Sisi's current international tour includes the Asian states of Bahrain, China and Uzbekistan, respectively. Sisi is currently in his second stop, China, in a visit that was described by Xinhua News Agency as "historic."
Moreover, a report by the Uzbek embassy in Cairo stated that Sisi’s visit to Uzbekistan on Tuesday will help push up Egyptian-Uzbek relations.
CAIRO - 4 September 2018: A visit by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to Uzbekistan later on Tuesday will help push up Egyptian-Uzbek relations, said a report by the Uzbek embassy in Cairo. The visit is the first by an Egyptian president since a visit by late President Gamal Abdel Nasser in the 1950s, added the report.
President Sisi extended an invitation to his Uzbek counterpart to visit Cairo to resume their talks.
