CAIRO - 6 September 2018: Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker reviewed on Wednesday a report on the outcome of President’s Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to China, in connection with the power sector.

Shaker pointed out that a conditional contract has been signed with the Chinese consortium (Shanghai Electric and Dong Wang) to construct the largest Middle East power plant using the clean coal in El Hamrawain, south of the Red Sea port city of Safaga.

The 6000 megawatts project comes at a cost of 4.4 billion dollars and is expected to be completed in around six years.

Another framework agreement has been signed with the Chinese Sinohydro on establishing another power generation facility at a cost of dlrs 2.6 billion.

The minister stressed that the Electricity Ministry spared no effort in boosting the power sector and grid in the country to enhance the services provided to the people.
