Egypt’s Zohr to yield 2B cubic feet daily by September: Eni

CAIRO – 27 July 2018: Italy's Eni announced on Friday the activation of the fourth liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing facility of Zohr gas field’s gas-treatment plant, pushing Egypt’s gross production of LNG to 1.6 billion cubic feet of gas a day, according to the company's statement.

The company further stated on Friday that gas production from Zohr field will expectedly hit two billion cubic feet a day as the company is slated to open the fifth processing facility in September.

In press statements, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek al-Mulla said that Egypt's production of natural gas at Zohr offshore field has increased to 6 billion cubic feet per day and is projected to jump to 6.5 billion cubic feet per day by August, adding that production is estimated to cap at 6.75 billion cubic feet by the end of the year.

Earlier in July, Eni announced a second oil discovery in the Egyptian Western Desert.

Eni clarified in a press release that the new discovery is on the B1-X exploration prospect located in South West Meleiha license, 130 kilometers north of the Siwa oasis.

It added that the well is the second one drilled by Eni to explore the deep geological sequences of the Faghur Basin.

The 2015 discovery of the largest gas field in nearly 50 years is expected to make Egypt the region’s major energy hub.

Discovered in 2015 by the Italian energy company Eni, Zohr gas field has an area of 100 square meters and a depth of 1,450 meters. Around $10 billion has been invested in the project and Eni is estimating a total output of approximately 30 trillion cubic feet of gas.
